, Josh Hood
excellent and became the first outfield player to
play the full 30 minutes (I bet he slept well that
night), Ewan Thompson, Sam Middleton playing there
best games this season. Above all though all eleven
players played really well today, you did your
manager and parents proud.
Westbury travelled to table toppers Newtown
Sports. Newtown started off the brightest,
attacking at every opportunity with a direct
approach. Westbury defended doggedly and Joe Price
was once again in superb form in goal, keeping
Westbury in the game. Westbury improved as the
half went on with Ewan Thompson & Ryan Harris
doing an excellent job in defence. Sam Middleton
played in a new midfield role and was Westbury's
best midfielder in the first half. William Russell
went close with a long range shot that went past
the post. Olivia Taylor came on for Harry
Charlwood & Ben Taylor for William Russell.
Harry Charlwood & William Russell were both
reintroduced at half time to bring more bite to
the Westbury midfield and pace to the attack.
After half time Newtown changed their goalkeeper
(who incidentally could kick the ball the length
of the pitch) he had a shot from about 25 yards
which left keeper Joe Price with no chance. Within
2 minutes the home side went two up with a well
worked goal, the ball was played into the box as
Joe Price dived he was narrowly beaten to the ball
by the oncoming forward.
The pleasing thing for Westbury was that today we
played a very good side but no-one gave up and
tried to the end, it would have been easy for the
team to have caved in after the quick 2 goals
early in the second half.
Well done to Goalkeeper Joe Price for his second
man of the match award this season.
Also a quick mention for our under 9's who won
3-0,well done. With best mates Ieuan Burgess &
Sam Allcock on target again.
Oldbury Park Tigers 3 Westbury Celtic U8's 2
Captain Sam Middleton
Scorers Ben Taylor and Josh Hood
Westbury opened brightly with Captain Sam
Middleton causing problems in the visitors
defence. However it wasn't long before the
Tigers got on top with some excellent play. Ryan
Harris was excellent in goal coming to
Westbury's rescue on a number of occasions.
Harry Charlwood was moved back into defence
alongside inform Thomas Evans. Ewan Thompson &
Olivia Taylor were passing the ball & finding
space well. On 8 minutes Olivia Taylor on the
ball, played in Ewan Thompson who in turn played
the ball into the path of Sam Middleton who had
his shot blocked, unfortunately for the Tigers
the ball fell to the feet of Ben Taylor who
slotted the ball home against the run of play.
Tigers did not have to wait long for a deserved
equaliser, when a Westbury scored an own goal
after a defensive mix up. Westbury were up
against it for the final minutes of the first
half. On the stroke of half time tigers went 2-1
up.
With the introduction or Josh Hood, Jake Howl,
Joe Price & William Russell Westbury began to
get on top. Ewan Thompson was bossing the
midfield and finding man of the match William
Russell with some excellent passing,
William Russell and Joe Price went close on
several occasions. However it was another own
goal that got Westbury back into the game with a
corner from Josh Hood volleyed into the roof
off an unlucky Tigers defender.
Westbury continued to press in the final
minutes with pacey William Russell causing panic
every time he got the ball. However Oldbury
stood firm and held out for their first win of
the season.
Well done Oldbury Park Tigers.
Man of the Match William Russell, also a mention
for Ewan Thompson & Ryan Harris both were
excellent.
Captain Harry Charlwood
The visitors started off the brightest with
Harry Charlwood doing well in goal to keep
Westbury level. Westbury eventually got going
with Ewan Thompson & Olivia Taylor playing well
in midfield. Ewan Thompson went close to putting
Celtic 1-0 up forcing the visitors keeper into a
fine save. Badgers broke the deadlock after 7
minutes, and Westbury soon went 2-0 down when
Harry Charlwood pulled of another save only for
the ball to fall kindly to the oncoming forward.
Half time 0-2.
Even though Westbury went 2-0 down, the players
tried hard in the first half. Which is why the
second half was disappointing. At one time
Westbury found themselves with 4 forwards on the
halfway line. The hosts soon found themselves
5-0 down. With Josh Hood taken off ill, Olivia
Taylor & Ewan Thompson were forced into
emergency defenders and impressed in these
unfamiliar positions too.
Man of the match Ewan Thompson, special
mention for Olivia Taylor was excellent, and
although letting in 5 goals Harry Charlwood for
keeping the score down.
A friendly was played after.
Captain William Russell.
Westbury called up two under 7's who came on as
substitutes in the second half at 5-0 down.
Melissa Hinton & Joe Smith both played well.
Melissa Hinton player of the match.
Goalscorer Joe Price
Man of the Match Dominic Partridge
Westbury gave debuts to Tai Brown & Dominic
Partridge with William Russell, Ben & Olivia
Taylor taking a mid-season break in Disneyland.
It was Ryan Harris' turn to don the gloves and
was called on several times in the first half to
keep Celtic on levels terms. Dominic Partridge
was dominant at the back and was well supported
by Jake Howl & Harry Charlwood. Before half time
the visitors went 2-0 up, but Westbury were not
out of the game by no means with Sam Middleton
causing problems for the visitors defence. The
midfield with hardworking Josh Hood and the
impressive Ewan Thompson were trying to find
away through a dogged Evesham defence.
Halftime 0-2
At halftime Westbury introduced Tai Brown & Joe
Price and Evesham were soon on the back foot as
Westbury took control, Ewan Thompson, Josh Hood
and Tai Brown all went close. Joe Price had a
shot charged down. Evesham were now reduced to
counter attacks but could not find a way past
Man of the Match Dominic Partridge and Ryan
Harris was superb in goal. Joe Price scored a
well deserved goal to get the hosts back
into game. Westbury continued to dominate in the
search of the equaliser their game deserved, but
with goal line clearances and near misses it was
not to be.
Friendly after the game
Westbury Celtic 3-0 Evesham United Robins
Sam Middleton 2
Ewan Thompson
Man of the Match Jake Howl
The game kicked off in torrential rain, last
weeks Goalscorer Joe Price took his turn in goal
and soon come under pressure as the Robins were
firing in shots from all angles on a tight
pitch. Josh Hood & Ewan Thompson are developing
into a decent partnership in midfield. Olivia
Taylor was impressive in midfield, Ryan Harris &
Harry Charlwood were coping well enough at the
back with Ryan Harris playing his best outfield
game for the club. Sam Middleton battled away up
front and caused problems when Westbury
attacked. Robins found themselves in front with
a long range effort midway through the first
half.
Jake Howl, William Russell & Ben Taylor were
introduced at the interval for Ryan Harris,
Olivia Taylor & Sam Middleton. Westbury went
close on a couple of occasions. Westbury were
forced into a change with Ryan Harris coming on
for Harry Charlwood who took a knock on the
knee. Robins went three up with another two long
range efforts.
Friendly
Evesham United Robins 3-2 Westbury Celtic
Joe Price & Ewan Thompson
Westbury 2-3 Ombersley
Josh Hood
Tai Brown
Westbury started of the brightest
taking the lead from a shot from
the edge of the box through Man of the Match Josh
Hood. Ombersley then took the game to the hosts
equalising within 2 minutes, spurred on by
Olivia Taylor, Ewan Thompson and
Josh Hood in midfield
Westbury pressed to regain their advantage, with
Ben Taylor going close. Westbury were caught by a
sucker punch when Ombersley counter attacked
through a fine solo run.
Halftime 1-2
Westbury dominated the second half but only had an
equaliser through Tai Brown to show for it,
his initial
shot hit the post, but with the goalkeeper
stranded he
coolly slotted the ball home with
two minutes remaining. However with
Jake Howl and Dominic
Partridge looking solid at the back Ombersley
scored another excellent
solo goal to leave Harry Charlwood no chance in
goal.
Man of the Match Josh Hood
Kempsey Colts 3-2
Westbury
Tai Brown, Sam Middleton
It proved a frustrating game for Westbury, the
visitors started again the brightest with Ewan
Thompson and Ben Taylor going close.
Kempsey broke away and scored past
the despairing dive of
Captain Joe Price. Harry Charlwood was forced of
the field when the ball hit him in the face from a
yard, Tai Brown replaced him. Westbury pressed
once again but could find no way through a
stubborn Kempsey defence. Kempsey were excellent
on the counter attack scoring a further 2 goals
before halftime.
Halftime 3-0
At halftime Westbury
introduced Sam Middleton, Dominic Partridge and
Jake Howl with the latter two in dominating form
at the back. That was just
what the visitors needed if they were going to get
anything from this game. Ewan Thompson and Sam
Middleton were causing problems for the colts as
Celtic pressed. Tai Brown
pulled one back from a shot from just inside the
box. Tai Brown was again involved with the second
playing a superb through ball
for Sam Middleton to fire into the
roof of the net with a
powerful shot. Westbury continued to press
with Ewan Thompson, Josh Hood,
Harry Charlwood and Sam Middleton all going close.
In the final minute Westbury
thought they had completed the fight back their
play had deserved when Tai Brown hit a vicious
free kick only to see it come of the under side of
the bar.
Full Time 3-2
Man of the Match Ewan Thompson,
getting better every week.
Special mention for Sam Middleton,
Tai Brown, who ran Ewan very close, both were
excellent today.
Even in defeat all the players did the club credit
today, the team could have folded at halftime and
the score could have been higher, anybody that
watched the game could see you deserved to get the
draw at least. You did yourselves proud today.
Well Done!
Ewan Thompson
Westbury entertained the Champions in what was
their last game of the season, after last weeks
friendly tournament at Kempsey Ryan Harris and
Dominic Partridge continued their impressive
partnership at the heart of the Westbury
defensive. With Josh Hood and Ewan Thompson
returning to play alongside Tai Brown in
midfield with tricky forward William Russell
returning as the lone striker. Ewan
Thompson scored for the hosts after 5 minutes.
The game was dominated by both sets of midfield
with Newtown limited to long range efforts in
the first half with William Russell having a
shot blocked and Josh Hood firing over the bar
from outside the area.
The Westbury manager continued his season long
policy changing the whole outfield players at
half time with only keeper Jake Howl playing in
goal. Olivia Taylor came in as the ball playing
defender and tough tackling Joe Price, Harry
Charlwood and Thomas Evans into midfield with
Sam Middleton and Ben Taylor up front. With so
many changes made Juniors took the game to
Celtic with Jake Howl again impressive in goal.
Newtown forced the Westbury keeper into some
impressive saves, Olivia Taylor and Joe
Price played well with Harry Charlwood and
Thomas Evans not giving the Juniors midfield
time on the ball. Newtown got their equaliser
midway through the second half with a powerful
shot that hit the bar and was adjudged correctly
that the ball had crossed the line by Referee
Ben Brogan, another fine performance by the
young official. Jake Howl again coming to the
rescue with a point blank save. Westbury did
counter attack on occasions with Westbury's best
chance in the second half falling to Sam
Middleton who had his chance blocked after good
work from Ben Taylor
Westbury did not let their heads drop and dug in
for a point that they at least deserved. An
excellent performance from every player. Well
done. It just goes to show you that if you put
the effort in at training as well as matches you
will get the rewards.
After this excellent result, a rumour started
going round St. Andrews that the blues board
are planning a swoop for Boss Darren Middleton
if their bid for premiership survival
fails. Chairman Chris (Fafa) Walters said that
he plans to sit down with the Middy at the end
of the season to discuss a new deal. Middy
refused to comment.
