Team: Howl, McNab, Price,
Lister, Hood, Russell, Middleton
Subs: Sinclair, Olver
Back to the league this week after
last weeks triumphant cup victory, this time another new team, we
have a lot of new teams this season, Warndon Village Hawks. This is
our second home game and I know the management and the players are
looking to keep their 100% home record going, as they say in the
Premiership it’s your home form that will keep you up!
A bit like last week the team is just
one player down, Woodland who has been superb in defence so far this
season was off to play in the sand at Weston, thankfully we have
last weeks MOTM McNab to slot in his place.
Westbury got the game started and
straight away Westbury looked to use the width of the pitch, a quick
ball from Hood to Russell who got a cross off to Middleton who shot
straight away, the shot was wide but fell to Russell who had a go
with his weaker foot, but couldn’t get any power behind it. Already
minutes in Westbury look the stronger side and from the Warndon
keepers shot it went straight to Lister who sent the ball wide to
Russell, who shot off on one his runs at the top of the box had a
shot just wide of the top corner.
Again Warndon are struggling to get
out of their own half, Middleton and Russell are exchanging some
lovely passes, Middleton again got the shot off, whiskers wide. It
was again Westbury attacking the ball right from the Warndon keepers
shot, the ball fell to Lister who found he had some space to run
into, at the top of the box he let rip and the ball flew past the
hands of the Warndon keeper 1 – 0.
Russell and Lister got involved
straight from the restart a Russell cut back to the penalty spot for
the waiting Lister, who had more time than he realised snatched at
the shot and it sailed high and wide. Howl, Price and McNab so far
have not been called upon, but they did not let their concentration
slip as a rare Warndon push into the Westbury half was dealt with
superbly by both Price and McNab, who look like that have been
playing together for years. In Fact it was Price who taking his
lead from the absent Woodland decided he would have a run at the
Warndon team, and he laid off a lovely weighted ball to Russell.
The passing from the team is crisp and
accurate and is what is cutting the Warndon team apart, a flowing
move from Russell, Lister and Middleton, was met by some strong
Warndon defence but the ball only fell back as far as Hood, who had
time and space and similar to the first Westbury goal, put his foot
right through it, keeper had no chance 2 -0. A quick change
Middelton off Sinclair on, Westbury looked to build on the
impressive display so far and again a defected ball fell to Hood
this time further out, some dispute if it was the half way line or
just inside, no matter a screamer that could only be watched and
admired by the Warndon keeper 3 – 0.
Another quick change Hood off Olver
on, straight away Olver is in the action getting the ball out wide
to Russell who ran at the keeper and slotted the ball past him 4 –
0. A well taken goal, and the first one of the season for Russell,
the first of many we hope. The half is coming to an end, the
Westbury crowd are looking very pleased and the Management are
thinking this is a good time to renegotiate the contracts, but the
players hadn’t finished yet, Lister got the ball, left the Warndon
defender standing, slipped the ball through to Sinclair, who fired
it home 5 – 0, and another player with his first goal of the season.
Half Time 5 - 0
After the goal fest of the first half,
which I will be honest left most of the supporters overjoyed but
also somewhat shocked, everyone was wondering what the second half
would be like. Well the supporters didn’t have to wait long,
Russell shot off down the line a 1 – 2 with Sinclair, who slipped
the ball back to Russell, goal 6 – 0. It must be said even though
the score line stood as it did at no point did the Warndon teams
heads drop, they kept battling and all credit to them, their tall
forward was off down the line, but McNab was onto him like a shot
closed him down and cleared the ball well.
The team are brimming with confidence,
and it is showing with the superb passing display, this time it was
Lister and Russell’s turn to cut open the Warndon defence, and like
the first half a cut back to Lister waiting in the box was sent over
the bar, a lovely move. A shuffle, Russell off Middleton on up
front, this meant Sinclair went on the wing. Sinclair was in the
thick of things again, a run straight at the keeper and a shot that
just bobbled before the contact went inches wide and caught
Middleton by surprise, as he like the supporters thought it was in.
Sub Price off Hood on, another superb performance from Price.
Middleton managed to break the line got a shot off again just wide,
Westbury are again dominating, this is a midfield and attackers
game, the defence has barely been called upon.
Sinclair seams to be loving his time
on the wing and cutting inside again straight at the keeper 7 – 0, a
very well taken goal. Sub Middleton off Russell back on and on
straight into the thick of the action as another attack left Russell
free his first shot was charged down but it landed straight at his
feet and he drilled it home 8 – 0, it was Russell again straight
from the restart who ran through the Warndon defence, from a Hood
through ball, who are looking a little weary now, and the keeper was
stranded out of position 9 – 0. Hood was involved in the next move
to Lister who got a shot or maybe a cross off picked up by Russell
back across to Sinclair goal 10 – 0.
Final change Lister off Price back
on, Price who wanted to get involved and was pushing up higher, got
the ball off Hood and fizzed a shot that glanced the top of the
crossbar, lovely effort. The whistle blew full time, what a game.
Full Time: 10 - 0
MOTM: Josh Hood, Very effective
in the middle of the park scored two goals and had a hand in most of
the others, well played.
Wow what to say,
ignore the rugby score line, as we played a team new to football in
fact this was only the forth competitive match they had played, what
we must look at is the way the team passed and finished, this will
give plenty of confidence to the whole team which can be carried on
for the future matches. Especially well done to the defence and
Jake Howl in goal, this game was played almost 100% in the
opposition half that concentration could have slipped but when
called upon all where sharp and alert to any danger, well done
Managers' Comments
A fantastic performance by all, like
last week the passing and commitment was there for all to see, best
of all it was clear that the players are listening to the coaches
and applying the advice during the match.
As the match report states it could
have been easy to switch off when we 4-0 up but Howl and the
defenders (McNab, Price and Olver) kept focussed.
A special mention to those that scored
in particular Russell (4) and Sinclair (3) who both got hat-tricks
and a sublime performance by Hood and Lister who between them seemed
to be involved in every goal. Middleton who started well, didn't
reach the standards that he set the previous week, I am sure he will
be back on form for our next game.
Again another game where it was
difficult to single out an individual player, but Hood 's
performance dominating the midfield with his ranging passes and well
taken goals proved to be of merit for Man of the Match, well done. |
