Yet another
away match (I think we will need directions to our home
games soon) took us to the new second placed team Hasbury Rangers.
Dave "Ferguson" Campbell did get lost twice on the way to
which Woolley said "He cant be very good at his job if he
gets lost this often"
Both teams
battled for possession but very few chances were created in
the opening twenty minutes. Hasbury then took advantage of
some slow defending and went 1-0 up. Fergie Campbell then
came up with an inspirational tactical change by
moving Goldie (Blondie) from left back to centre forward
and on the stroke of half time we could see why Fergie had
made the change. Goldie ran on to a through ball from Jim
(Sid) Campbell, managed to beat the keeper and chip the ball
into the net. A deserved 1-1 at half time.
Fergie
Campbell and his able assistant Carlos
Quiquiqueerchickentikkaqueiroz (alias JT) gave the half time
talk and gave the lads belief that they could go on and win
the match. With Zac and Grant (Brush) both excellent in
defence this allowed the midfield and strikers to push on.
Tyler then came up with a "Gascoigne flick" over the
defender and put in the perfect cross for Clarke (Boyce) to
score his first goal for the club. Confidence grew
throughout the team and after a free kick was awarded Tyler
floated in the cross for Jack to flick the ball across the
goal to find Jim (sid) to score with a bullet header.
Westbury
kept Hasbury out for the rest of the match with two
brilliant saves from Dave( Bannerman) and were unlucky not
to finsh the match with four and a great run down the left
from Sid who was partially rugby tackled but still managed
to put a cross in for Woolley whose shot was goalbound but
the keeper managed to turn this over the bar.
Another top
performance from all the players - Well done lads.
Man of the
match - Zac Scott
Carling don't
write score lines for Westbury Celtic but if they did this
would be it -
Enville 2 - 3 Westbury Celtic U15s.
In each of our recent
matches all the players have battled hard and had very
little reward. This was not to be this week with a well
fought game and matching second placed Enville in every
department.
Westbury took the lead
after some good work from James Thomas down the left. He
forced the keeper to parry a shot into the path of Ben
Brogan who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Enville then pilled on the pressure and were rewarded just
before half time to bring the scores level. Further pressure
early in the second half resulted in Enville going 2-1 up.
The lads didnt give up and with some words of Wisdom form
the acting manager Dave "Ferguson" Campbell - " Tyler I
would like you to play on the left and try and construct
something for us." Wise words indeed - as Ben released Tyler
down the left who then cut into the box to finish superbly
from an acute angle.
Enville were not happy with
a point and threw everything at our defence. Zac Scott was
solid and an excellent performance from Dan Jenkins at right
back steadied the match. Enville continued to push forward
but the Ben Brogan took possession on the half way line and
ran a full forty yards and finished calmly from the edge of
the box to take the score to 2- 3. Much jubilation followed
and even Sulking Sidney joined in after having a
inspirational game in midfield.
Man
of the Match - Zac Scott- Magnanimous in defence.
Another very
good performance from the lads who battled well throughout
the match. Westbury Celtic equalled Norton in every
department and were rewarded early in the second half when
Clarkey put a great through-ball for James Thomas to run on
to and finish well. Norton were forced to push on and after
a hit and hope the ball dropped in rather fortuitously under
the bar to bring them level. After chances at both ends
Norton then took the lead following a goal mouth scramble
when the referee adjudged the ball had crossed the
line before being headed clear.
Man of the
match - Dave Banner - pulled off a number of great saves.
Arley Kings
2-2 Westbury Celtic U15's
With rain in
the air and a heavy pitch the signs were not good for an
entertaining match. However the two teams put in a great
deal of commitment, effort and played some attractive
football throughout.
As in our
previous encounter Westbury started the brighter and created
the first chance following a great turn of speed from Josh
Hackett who opened up the defence but no one was able to
get on the end of his cross. James Staunton then showed us
what he is capable of by rifling a shot in the bottom corner
from outside the area to put Westbury 1-0 up.
Arley came
back into the game and were slightly lucky with a cross-shot
that sailed in but then drove home their advantage by going
in at the break 2-1 up. Just before half time Tyler tried to
control the match ball with his own ball. Unfortunately
Tyler came off second best but was advised at half time that
his Mommy would rub it better later on!!!
Westbury
battled away and were rewarded with a James Thomas goal
following a great through ball from Ben Brogan. Westbury
finished the stronger but were unable to finish the game
off. Grant then tried to copy Tyler and was seen with tears
in his eyes and blubbering "I don't think I will be able to
father children now". Our child protection officer again
refused to give hands on first aid and told him to get back
on the pitch.
Man of the
Match : Ben Brogan
Westbury Celtic
U15's 1-4 Arley Kings
A change of
venue saw Westbury move back to their old stomping ground -
King Georges. Away from the 'bowling green' of the Glyn
Mitchell ground the finishing today was about as good as the
centre circle and goalmouth areas at KGs.
Westbury
started brightly and created several clear cut chances which
were either put wide over the bar or straight at the
keeper. Finally Jim Campbell showed the way and finished
well. Arley Kings were hardly in the match when an innocuous
cross was pumped into the crowded goalmouth and Goalie
Banner shouted for the whole ground to hear "KEEPERS" - but
unfortunately Grant didn't hear the shout, popped his
head up and deflected the ball into an empty net. This
lifted Arley who pushed forward again and after some
indecisive defending were allowed to go 2-1 up at half time.
The second
half showed a similar pattern with Westbury creating more
opportunities but falling to finish. Arley showed the way
and put in two further goals . A disappointing result for
the lads so back to the training ground for finishing
practice on Friday !!
Man of the
Match : Zac Scott
To give the lads some experience we entered the above cup
at under 16 level. Westbury Celtic again battled well
throughout the match and were unlucky to go in 2-0 down at
half time. The age difference and strength showed in the
second half and Worcester ran in worthy 6-0 winners.
Man of the Match - George Goldstraw
Kewford Eagles
5-0 Westbury Celtic
When the
fixtures were handed out for October we knew it was going to
be a difficult month. There are no home games and we play
last seasons top three in successive weeks. Kewford are a
well organised and very strong side, however Westbury
battled well but were unable to create any clear cut
chances. Kewford then stepped up a gear and scored
three very good goals. It would have been more but for the
acrobatics of Bannerman in goal. The second half was
a midfield battle with neither side really gaining any
advantage. Westbury gradually pushed more players forward to
try and get something out of the game but were further
undone with two more goals from Kewford.
Man of the
match : Ben Brogan
A match
which saw Westbury Celtic gift the opposition two goals and
in turn create enough clear cut chances to take all three
points. Hasbury controlled the first twenty minutes keeping
Westbury pinned back in their own half but were unable to
force the keeper into any saves. Westbury slowly came into
the game and later in the half carved out a couple of
chances themselves. The Hasbury striker must have thought
Christmas had come early when the ball fell at his feet
after Bannerman was unable to hold on to cross, Hasbury went
in at half time 1-0 up.
Again in the
second half Westbury were slow to get out of the blocks and
after missing three tackles Hasbury were a comfortable 2-0
up. Westbury then decided to come to the party and started
playing some creative football. James Thomas opened his
account for the season after missing last weeks game through
international duty. Further chances fell to Ben Dan and
James but unfortunately none were converted and with Hasbury
hanging on at the end Westbury were unlucky not to finish
with at least a draw.
Man of the Match - Jim Campbell
An outsanding display from the whole of the
team saw Westbury start their season with a convincing 9-1
over Bewdley Town.
Both sides started cautiously with few
chances being created early on. Tyler Peters scored from a
stunning free kick (almost Beckham like) to put Westbury 1-0
up. This was followed by a fine finish from Jim
Campbell after a defence splitting through ball from Ben
Brogan.
Jim (The Legend) Campbell had a great game up
front and went on to score four well taken goals in total
and also created numerous chances throughout the
game. James Staunton also settled in well on his debut
and bagged two fine goals.
Ben Brogan scored a good individual goal and
Ben (Silvery) Sanders completed the scoring. The defence of
Dave Banner, Zac Scott, Grant Evans and Jack Weatherby were
solid throughout with Grant Evans taking the honours for Man
of the match.
