Westbury Celtic Under 9s Youth

Saturday 25th September 2010

Home V Wardon Villages Jaguars

The first home fixture of the season for the Under 9s Youth team started positively with Westbury having a chance almost from the kick off with some slick passing from midfield, which saw a shot go wide from the boot of Ben K.

Westbury played the ball confidently at times but the passes weren’t always strong enough which allowed Wardon Villages some chances too.  Once again Francesco and Harry Stokes kept things tight at the back and kept the attacks away from our goal.

Westbury seemed to have more chances than Wardon in the first half coming close with shots from Charlie W, Benjamin and Ben K all going wide.

The second half began with, once again, some lively passes from all of the players.  Wardon were attacking well but Alistair, Harry Stokes and Charlie W challenged well and fought for every ball to keep us in control and very much on top.

With Wardon under some pressure they kicked the ball out for a throw in which opened up a great chance.  From just inside their half Harry Stokes took the restart with a long throw into space which bounced in front of Charlie Q who controlled it and calmly put it passed the keeper and into the back of the net! 1-0.

With the game into the final few minutes Wardon put a little pressure on us but Harry Staley kept a clean sheet with some vital saves close to time.  Westbury weren’t happy to settle for a 1-0 win and continued to pass the ball well and tackle hard to win the ball back.  Charlie W’s work rate as well as Francesco’s should be commended as they worked tirelessly for the whole game.

The final whistle was a pleasing relief (for the parents watching) as the team deservedly celebrated their 1-0 win!  Well done once again boys and let’s get the passing strong for next week as we take on L&B Badgers on home turf.  Referee’s Player of the Match this week was Alistair Russell.  Well done to you for some superb play in midfield and defence!
