After the disappointment
of last week’s game being
stolen from them the boys
were ready in their minds
to take on this team.
With Harry Stokes away
from defence and ¾ of the
team having spent three
days away from home with
school only time would
tell whether body would
match the players’ minds!
The
early play was promising
from Westbury with good
passing between Alistair
in defence to Benjamin in
midfield and we seemed to
be dominating play. With
little talking going on
the boys soon made a
mistake giving Welland an
easy 0-1 lead, which went
a little against the run
of play.
The
recent residential school
trip was beginning to show
as a jaded Westbury team
gave another easy goal to
the visitors making it 0-2
before half time.
Second half saw Declan
come on in defence and
make some crucial tackles
to keep Westbury in the
game. The boys settled
into their passing game
and broke through the
Welland defence with
Charlie Q passing to
Benjamin who was unmarked
on the edge of the box and
held his head in disbelief
as he saw his shot go just
wide of the post!
Nearing the final whistle
Welland were able to pass
the ball well and got
behind the Westbury
defence leaving Harry one
on one and unable to stop
the goal as the final
score became 0-3.
Not
the best performance (in
my opinion – the author!!)
of the Westbury Youth team
but with half term coming
at just the right time
let’s hope the break
brings back their winning
ways! Player of the game
not yet known.
